What the FAQ?

What is and why "Azumanga"? (For reference of the original title, moot at this point)
I thought Azumanga meant "four panel comic", which this is a four panel comic. So that was the easy part. The actual idea for choosing the name is from a manga called "Azumanga Daioh" where most of the timing style for this strip comes from.

From Damienroc:
"Okay, my Japanese isn't spectacular, but your site is the first reference I've heard to "Azumanga" meaning 4-panel comic. Those I've usually seen referred to as yon-koma or similar (yon = 4, koma = comic).

Azumanga is a bit of a pun, a combination of the creator Kiyohiko Azuma and manga. He titles many of the things he does this way. In fact, if you can get access to the old, old, old Pioneer LDs of Tenchi Muyo and (I think) El Hazard, you'll see some of his original Azumanga pieces.

The Daioh bit for Azumanga Daioh is because it ran in Dengeki Daioh."

Thank you, cause while your Japanese isn't spectacular, mine is bilge.
Since the comic is going to be growing out of the 4 panel rut, The name was changed to be original.
Heaven knows, Obaba surely can be original.

The "Midnight" in the name?...
The name of the ocean the game takes place in.

Some of the characters names sound Japanese. Why?
I am a sick person that likes puns. Everyone's name is either a pun or hint about them in general.
Oh, the Japanese? No reason actually, I just happened to have the English to Japanese dictionary next to me at the time.
This will change as more characters are introduced

The comic looks fun? Is the game fun too?
Rather than me go into an entire tirade about how much fun the game is, go to puzzlepirates.com and see why 4 out of 5 pirates recommend this game compared to the other
leading MMORPG...

It's funny, but you could spice it up a bit.
Um...I hope it's funny. And it's PG! What more could you ask for? PG standing for "Pirate Grade"Arr.

Do you work for OOO/How much do they pay you?
I am not employed by the games developers, and do not recive any
monetary gain for penning this comic.
I'm in it for the lulz.

How did you come up with these characters, instead of using actual players?
Well I know life can be better than fiction, but I made up some pirates that would not be insulted if I made all their dirty laundry a big joke. Secondly, I think they grew on me after a bit. One night without cable can do wonders for the imagination. While I like all the pirates I'll be introducing to Midnight, I think I like Toji the most. You can always tell which characters I like, by seeing who has the roughest time of it.
Oh...and that awesome hat!

Either "The names of ("character name(s)") is/are already in use", or "I saw Toji on the docks the other day"
To make it easy on both counts, yes the names are in use, but not all are active. The only active player with a character name is me, Obaba, from when the comic came first, I pounced on the opportunity to get the Toji name. This is life paying tribute to art, not the other way around. So in this case, there is a Toji, but it isn't the one in the comic. It's Obaba playing foolies on you all...though most of the time I can attest to the reaction being about the same when using that alt.

*Addendum: Kai is my fiancee's alt. =P
A player has made a Greensera alt as well, and logged in to talk to me, and hasn't been seen since.
Someone has Sera plays as well but, I only see them on occasionally
Joyce is however playing along.
If you see her, say hi and she will be happy aid you! Hee hee.

Basing your reaction on what you know about a character in a story, isn't cool tho' actual people are there and get to know them on who they are, not what I write/doodle about here

(after episode 40 or so) WHAT THE HECK IS TOJI ANYWAY?!!! O_O
A Pirate. Haven't you been paying attention?

Anymore that we should know about the story?
It is a story that has a beginning and ending. It is usually funny, but may get soap in your eyes at times. There are a few twists and turns, and depending on either my mood, or your vote, there even could be a happy ending.
I am an anime fan. One of my favorite movies is "Grave of the Fireflies". and if you know what that is, then you have a good understanding about how I feel about pulling punches to make sugar-coated endings...after "The little Mermaid", I lost all respect for Disney.
If I put the ending to a vote, think about what you would like to see in the end, rather than what sounds the best or most logical. Cause there are 3 endings possible. Of the two good endings one is good and the other, so-so. The last ending is the WORST, possible ending, and that's why I'm letting you all vote. Cause if you pick it, it's your fault, not mine. Bwhahaha!

I have a great idea for the comic...(followed by a storyline).
Save yer breath, Matey. The story is done. I'm just drawing it for you guys. Call me again if I decide to do a sequel.

Cameos?
Oh heck yeah! I Will have cameos all over, cause Midnight is a pretty busy ocean. And with characters frequenting the Alpha's inn, you know some familiar faces are bound to show up.

Are there conditions for cameos?
Some, actually. I can only do cameos for player's pirates on the MIDNIGHT ocean. It's nor a bais against or for other oceans, I simply play Midnight almost exclusively and the story is a Midnight one. Sometimes the other oceans may get mentioned, but for the most part, if you have a main pirate officer that plays on Sage, and a Greenie cabin person on Midnight, I can cameo the Midnight one.

If the storyline is going on, I may not be in a situation to do cameos. Holiday episodes are a great opportunity to get cameos in. Storyline episodes are less likely to have cameos. I will have parts in the story that will require certain types of players, such as flag royalty, new or trial players, or maybe someone particularly prone to hanging out in the inns. Sometimes it's according to where you are most likely to be found at any given time. For me, kinda like Animal Crossing. Since the story takes place predominantly on Alpha, I am probably going to have are hard time fitting in someone usually in Emerald, or at sea ...Otherwise cameos are completely random players used to "fill negative space in scenes that need it". Alpha docks wouldn't look right unless it had players there.
If you haven't seen yourself in a cameo, there are 2 things to remember:
Have I even seen you to know you? I like to put something personal in things.
If you happen to see me sitting around, doing nothing of interest, chances are I am people watching. It's me hobby, and what inspired me to draw this for all of you. If I am doing this, let me continue, I may be making a sketch.

Are the ideas based on anything you've done/ seen in-game?
Yes and no. (My favorite answer to most questions rather than "sometimes") I sometimes read or hear about someone else's experience, and slip them in, or sometimes it is simply a personal experience that I found funny...Then there are these found after the fact:

Piker says, "One sec cat on desk"
Piker says, "NO she is sitting on me key board"
Obaba laughs From the comic!

That was, by far, even funnier since I already drew the comic, and he WAS swordfighting at the time and won.
Thank you Piker for the laugh.

Who is Natsume? Is she a regular character?
Natsume is a non-canon character that generated out of several different ideas as an epilogue to the current events going on in the story. In a basic sense, she is Toji's estranged daughter. She is a pacifist and doesn't like the idea of piracy at all. The most basic reason for her existance is to muck about in other events like Dungeons and Dragons as well as a few other online appearences like Rumble in the Summer, which takes place in a situation spawned from another creative YPP player, Jevil. For the record, her other parent could be any number of characters so don't ask too much about her genetics.

What Crew/Flag are the characters part of?
None that you know of. No free promotions here...wait a minute. It's based on a subscription game! Isn't that enough for you?!

What is up with all the astrology/tarot junk?!
Astrology is the way people designate personality types for centuries. The tarot does much the same with the basis being the story within the tarot. When working with characters, the dynamics of who they are and how they react in situations is critical to the storyline. Things like Sera's loyalty and Kai's dual personality are important to their relationship and how they deal with situations they expect and don't expect. It also gives a reader a chance to see much of themselves in a character that may share the same or similar designations.
